Royal Birkdale 2/7

One of my highlights so far was my day at the Open golf championships at Royal Birkdale. At the time I confess to not appreciating just how big a deal the tournament was. I was thinking there might be a few spectators milling around and perhaps the odd journalist from the local newspaper. Upon arriving at the course early on the Saturday, I was surprised to find thousands of people waiting patiently to get into the course having bags and belongings searched at security. Not to mention the worlds media buzzing around awaiting the days play! Without so much as a ticket to gain entry I thought I may as well give it a go and so confidently walked upto the VIP entrance, easel in hand and simply announced that I was the artist and had arrived to paint the days play. Immediately I was ushered through to the photographers enclosure on the edge of the 18th green. “Will this spot be ok for you sir?” It turned out to be the perfect day of painting whilst watching elite golfers demonstrating their skills. I even had a write up about my day in one of the national papers the following day! This is the painting that I did which I sold to one of the members who saw me paint it.
